Beloved Swedish tape imprint
Zeon Light just dropped its next batch of delicious left-field sound recordings, five new cassettes made by more or less enigmatic artists from places such as Portugal, the USA, or
Småland. This is all good stuff here, however two of the releases caught our attention in particular.
First, there's
Linear Bells' c46
An Island, seven extensive experimental ambient musings for your Tuesday afternoon contemplation, composed and arranged by Nantes, France native David Teboul, "created after a trip to
Chausey Islands where some sounds and field recordings were trapped". Splendid.
The second one is somewhat more elusive though seemingly more straightforward.
Sea-Through is a decidedly brief submission, four tracks that spread across a tape of fifteen minutes in length. According to the information we could gather, the author of these twisted beach pop gems, Heat and White, is to be found in beautiful Malmö on the southwestern tip of
Scania right by the
bridge that connects Scandinavia with the Danish isles and thus mainland Europe. I've seen beaches there, and if my memory doesn't fail me, then these hushes of fuzzed guitar evoke images that are just a bit too lush and sunny for the Baltic seashore. But then again, that's how they are, these Swedes. Listen to the title track above.

Wolther Goes Stranger has been the solo project of A Classic Education member Luca Mazzieri since 2007, but for some reason so far it has completely slipped my attention, though the fine folks over at Get Off The Coast (RIP) championed him two years ago after he had handed over a CDr before his bandmate Jonathan Clancy aka His Clancyness had played at SXSW. Anyway, while "Money" is nothing like the dance-y, gloomy "Playing Filter (The Sookie's Game)" back then, it still is a pretty dark offering that adds a little extra marvelousness with its subtly unsynchronized, off-kilter male/female vocals. It's a cover of this song of course, but coming from these Italian fellas, the line "I want to buy you something / But I don't have any money" sounds strangely more threatening and bleak, if not somewhat hopeless.
"Money" is part of Wolther Goes Stranger's new EP A Lovely Boy, which is out now via Italian imprint La Barberia (which means barber shop, as apparently the business is run from inside a real barber shop, go figure).
